It has amazing amounts of shock absorption as well as Sportiva's "Trail Rocker" which aids forward momentum under stride. Sportiva have updated a number of elements with the second version of the Akasha. It contains a number of recycled materials both in the uppers and the midsole. They've increased the durability of the shoe, adding more TPU guards to the uppers without compromising on weight. They've also managed to make the Akasha II even more cushioned via adding the new "Cushion Platform".
